Registered Membership Criteria & Benefits

In addition to the application form, Registered and Intermediate member applicants will also need to download a supervisor's report (PDF) and a Code of Ethics (PDF) to forward onto their Supervisor for completion.
Training Requirement:
The minimum requirement for Registered Membership is a diploma in counselling or psychotherapy at under-graduate or post-graduate level, which comprises a minimum of 450 hours of, taught theory and skills. In addition to this, training must also include a clinical placement of a minimum of 100 client hours and training supervision over and above the minimum taught theory together with a minimum of 50 hours personal therapy. CPC encourage the continuation of therapy beyond the minimum in keeping with UKCP Psychotherapeutic Counselling Section criteria.
Experience Requirement:
3 years (or 450 client hours) post qualification hours. These hours can either be in the NHS, another organisational setting or private practice. (All hours will require verification from a manager or supervisor).
Supervision Requirement:
1.5 hours per month individual supervision (or equivalent in a group i.e. number of supervisees divided by the supervision time.
Personal Therapy Requirements:
Undertaken a minimum of 50 hours personal individual therapy.
CPC encourage the continuation of therapy beyond the minimum in keeping with UKCP Psychotherapeutic Counselling Section criteria.
Please note: Applicants who do not meet the criteria for Registered membership may be eligible for Intermediate membership. Intermediate members do not currently meet all the criteria for full registration, in one or two of the following respects:
- Post qualification experience is less than 3 years or 450 hours
- Core generic training is below 450 hours (Individuals will, however, have a minimum of 200 hours training & 5 years post qualification experience)
- Less than 50 hours of individual personal therapy.
